This Lent Term we focus our celebrations of Clare’s 50th anniversary of co-education. At the start of the academic year of 1972/73 Clare became one of the first Cambridge Colleges to admit women to its student body and Fellowship (alongside King’s and Churchill). With 50 years of co-educational intake Clare boasts a distinguished list of musical alumni, with many professional musicians having started their journeys at the College. This Term we welcome back just some of the very many who have joined the celebrated lineage of Clare’s musical history.

In the penultimate Sunday of Lent Term Clare alumnae Naomi Warburton (Clare 2017), Kathryn Jourdan (Clare 1985) and Jane Salmon (Clare 1977) join forces with undergraduate players from Clare to perform a special Evensong of works for choir and strings by Lili Boulanger, Imogen Holst and Anna Thorvaldsdottir (5 March).

Each Sunday Evensong during full term is preceded by a recital in Chapel at 5.25 p.m. Visitors are welcome, and admission is free.

In a momentous concert three years in the making, the Cambridge University Orchestra returns to the magnificent surroundings of King’s College Chapel for the first time since the pandemic. They are joined by soprano Eleanor Dennis, baritone Ashley Riches, the Cambridge University Chamber Choir and the choirs of Clare, Gonville and Caius, Jesus and Selwyn Colleges for a performance of Brahms’ unique and reflective German Requiem conducted by King’s College Director of Music Daniel Hyde.
