The Choir gave 10 performances across the USA, visiting New York, Columbus (GA), Greensboro (NC), Raleigh (NC), St Johnsbury (VT), before moving west to Lubbock (TX), and finishing with four appearances in California. The concerts covered repertoire from Praetorius to Rutter via Byrd, Britten and Taverner. The audience reaction was overwhelmingly positive, as the Choir were met with standing ovations after every performance.
As well as concerts, we managed to squeeze in lots of sight-seeing. We visited Central Park, Macy’s, Ground Zero, and Times Square in New York, as well as singing at a reception in the Morgan Library for the University’s new Vice Chancellor. In Columbus we got some well-earned rest in the luxurious Marriott Hotel before performing at the wonderful concert hall the following day. We had a coach journey to North Carolina where we had breakfast in the Waffle House which surely was a highlight of the trip! A plane to Raleigh the next day ensued, where we visited the Confed statutes and a museum. Our concert that evening was in St Michael’s Episcopal Church where we were greeted with a magnificent standing ovation. Next was Vermont, where we had a tour of the Ben & Jerry’s factory in -9oc weather! After our concert at St Johnsbury, we were provided with pizza and then headed to the bar for the evening (those underage stuck to Lemonade, of course…). The next day was a concert in the United Community Church, but before we visited the St Johnsbury Museum and the Grove Farm Maple Syrup Factory. As the tour drew to a close, we were thrilled to make our debut under Graham Ross in California, performing first in Palm Desert, and then finishing the tour with three sell-out performances (in the same day!) in Los Angeles’s Bradbury Building – an unforgettable end to an incredible tour.
